Brexit has changed State aid laws in the UK. There are now three sets of rules regulating State aid and subsidies:

-         the State aid rules in the Northern Ireland Protocol to the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement;

-         the "State subsidy" rules in the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the UK and the EU; and

-         commitments in various international treaties that may affect the actions of UK public authorities.

This video discusses the first set of rules: the State aid provisions in Article 10 of the Northern Ireland Protocol.

When do they apply? How can public authorities comply with them?

We’ll look at two practical examples: grant-making and public contracts.
